SGI proprietary (what, you expected standard parts?) - One big happy family
R5K and R10K O2's, an R4600PC Indy, an R8K Indigo2 in a purple case (wtf) and Mr. Onyx. I also have a broken Onyx2 deskside that isn't in this picture. - OH NOES! IT'S THE DREAD INST MONSTER! RUN!!!!
And you thought installing Linux was hard. Reinstalling the OS after installing bigger disks. The SGI install process is, to put it politely, somewhat counterintuitive. - MC3 view #2
- MC3 memory board with 1664 MB RAM
12 years later, all this fits on one DIMM... - MC3 closeup
- Login
The system came with a mystery root password, so I had to boot an install CD and clear it out. - License manager
This system originally lived at UMBC and was owned by several other people before it was given to me. Unfortunately there do not appear to be any interesting software licenses installed. - Keyboard adapter
Converts proprietary SGI keyboard/mouse interface to PS/2. Designed and sold by a fellow hobbyist (or build it yourself). - It lives!
- It boots! (Sort of.)
- IP25 CPU board with 4x R10000 195MHz
Kids these days with their quad core 2.4ghz xeons. Get offa my lawn. - IP25 closeup
Note the multiple different styles of ASICs on the board, with dates ranging from 1992 to 1996 and a mix of newer and older packaging styles. When introduced, the Onyx came with a different CPU board designed around the R4000 processor. The IP25 is a redesigned CPU board that shoehorns the newer R10K processor into the older Onyx system architecture.
